Murat R. OZSUNAY, M.C.J. (UT Austin)

Murat R. Özsunay, a member of the Istanbul and Frankfurt/M Bar Associations, is an ‘Avukat’ (Attorney-at Law), European Patent Attorney (epi), Patent Attorney (TürkPatent) and Trademark Attorney (TürkPatent), licensed mediator, and international commercial arbitrator, based in Istanbul.

He is a graduate of Quartz Hill High School, California (AFS Scholar) and Kadıköy Anadolu Lisesi (Istanbul), Istanbul University Law Faculty (1985), Academy of American & International Law (CAIL, Dallas) and University of Texas at Austin Law School (Master of Comparative Jurisprudence - M.C.J.), and holds various professional training certificates (American Arbitration Association: AAA, etc.)

He has been practicing domestic and international civil and commercial law, including foreign investments, intellectual property, civil procedure, mediation - arbitration, and ECHR litigation. He worked as a legal consultant also in Frankfurt/M for many years, and as a lawyer at the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg for two years.

After having served as a research assistant at Istanbul U. Faculty of Political Science at the beginning of his career, he has been teaching part-time at J.W. Goethe University Law Faculty (Juridicum, Frankfurt/M), Bahçeşehir University (Istanbul), Özyeğin University (Istanbul), Istanbul Bar Association Apprentice Training Center (SEM), Georgia State University College of Law Summer School (Linz, Austria), American University Washington School of Law (Washington D.C.).

Murat R. Özsunay publishes on the abovementioned topics primarily in English and Turkish, and presents national or comparative reports at international conferences. He speaks English, German, Turkish and can read French. He is a member of, inter alia, International Bar Association (IBA), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC-WBO), German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK-Türkei, listed arbitrator), International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI-Germany), International Association of Comparative Law (IACL), International Association of Procedural Law (IAPL), German – Turkish Association of Lawyers (D-TR Juristenvereinigung), German Bar Association (DAV), Austrian Arbitration Association (ArbAut), Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC, listed practitioner).
